About

What Bored of Trade is

Bored of Trade is a free-to-start creative club for people who want to own something of their own.

It publishes free tools for working out what to build and then building it, and runs a membership community around them. It is an independent project, not a course, an accelerator, or a job board. Nothing here promises you a business. The tools are for people who suspect there’s something else they could be doing and can’t yet name it.

Who it's for

People in work who have checked out of it; people with a project or prototype that won’t let go; people tired of sending applications into the void; and people with no plan at all beyond a sense that the next promotion isn’t the answer.

It is not for people who already know exactly what they’re building and just need funding or staff.

What's free

  • —The Passions Quiz — seven questions, about four minutes, by typing or by voice. Returns a passion profile, three project ideas and a first step. No account needed to take it or read the results.
  • —The Inversion Exercise — a fifteen-minute guided conversation that works backwards from failure. No account needed.
  • —The Kit — 19 exercises (10 thinking exercises in the Shift Kit, 9 making exercises in the Lift Kit). All readable and usable without an account. An account is only needed to save your answers.
  • —The Visitor tier, $0— movement identity, community access and every free tool on the site.

What's paid

Three paid tiers are planned. None of them are open yet, and nothing on the site charges anyone today.

  • —Analyst, $20/mo — coming soon. Everything in Visitor. AI-guided skill packs for every exercise.
  • —Director, $100/mo — coming soon. Everything in Analyst. Priority access to pop-up events.
  • —Board Member, $500/mo — coming soon. Everything in Director. Monthly 1:1 mentorship session.

How the community works

It’s asynchronous. There are no live calls to be in the wrong timezone for. Members get one prompt a week by email, do it in whatever time they have, and post what they made back to the group.

Pseudonyms are the default. Every member is given a generated screen name and can post under it. A lot of people here still have the job they’re quietly planning to leave, and the community is built on that assumption rather than despite it.

Who's behind it and when it started

Bored of Trade is an independent project, started in 2026 and run online. It isn’t venture funded and has no staff.

Common questions

What is Bored of Trade?

Bored of Trade is a free-to-start creative club for people who want to own something of their own instead of trading their talent for a paycheck. It publishes free tools — a seven-question quiz and nineteen thinking and making exercises — and runs a membership community around them.

Is it free?

Yes, to start. The Passions Quiz, the Inversion Exercise, all 19 kit exercises and the Visitor tier cost nothing, and none of them require an account to read or use. Paid tiers exist but are not open yet.

Do I have to use my real name?

No. Every member gets a generated screen name, and you can post under that. Real names are never required — a lot of members still have the job they're planning to leave.
